Threat modelling and VAPT (Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing) are two different but complementary security assessment processes. Threat modelling is a process of identifying and assessing the threats to an organization’s assets. VAPT is a process of testing an organization’s systems and applications for vulnerabilities.
Threat modelling typically involves the following steps:
- Identify assets: The first step is to identify the organization's assets, both physical and digital.
- Identify threats :The next step is to identify the threats to those assets. This includes both internal and external threats.
- Assess the likelihood and impact of each threat:The third step is to assess the likelihood and impact of each threat. This helps to prioritize the threats that need to be addressed first.
- Develop mitigation strategies :The fourth step is to develop mitigation strategies for the threats. This could involve implementing security controls, changing processes, or training employees.
